2012 Monday Night Meals

Monday Night Meals is an opportunity to serve our community.  We provide food and serve a meal at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church to various families from the neighborhood.  Each date we are partnered with another group who does the clean up portion of the evening.  In general the evening begins at 4:15 p.m. and wraps up about 6:30 p.m.  If you have any questions please feel free to call or email Kelly Miller at (262) 939-6043 or cmiller205@wi.rr.com.

2012 HALO Meals

HALO is a community sponsored facility that provides not only a place for homeless people to sleep, but also life skills to move forward with their lives.  Many of us at Covenant have been helping with a meal once a month; five months out of twelve.  As a church we also provide a meal five months out of twelve for the community meal program at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

We show up at the Men’s Side at HALO, mix up some really good corn bread, and get the rest of the meal ready.  Church members provide the world famous HALO Ham Casserole.  Organizer Debbie Boice, who serves on the Mission Outreach Committee, puts out the pans with a recipe for church members to pick up at church, take home and cook.  Then they deliver the fully-cooked, warm casserole to the HALO center at 2000 DeKoven Avenue in Racine.

Without the help from generous members this program wouldn’t be a viable ministry for us.  It takes all of us to make this as successful as it has been—including the offerings given to help pay for additional food which supplements the meal.  The men at HALO are always so grateful to see us.  They really enjoy our meal.  Grab a pan and make it a great day.

2012 Habitat for Humanity

Another year is approaching for our church to volunteer for Habitat.  If anyone is interested in volunteering, please email Chris Miller at cmiller5043@gmail.com.  Habitat is a great organization that allows people to work towards a house and get favorable financing to be able to afford it.  Our church helps finish the houses so the families can move in as soon as they are completed.

The Mission Outreach Committee has collection baskets in the Providence Room in order to collect items on an ongoing basis for the FOOD PANTRY, GOODLAND SCHOOL, and TEENAGE FOSTER CARE.  We appreciate your generosity and look forward to working together to share with others in need.  Thank you.

Food Pantry

We have been contributing to the Food Pantry at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church for many years.  Non-perishable, protein rich foods are best.

We always need peanut butter, jelly, pasta meals, cereals, juices, puddings, canned fruit, tuna, etc.  Also  needed are personal hygiene products such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, soaps, deodorant and sanitary products.

We encourage you to bring food every Second Sunday when we have our Second Sunday Coffees following the worship services.  If you forget to bring food on Sunday, you can drop it off during the week—Office Hours are 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.—or buy it at the Children’s Food Bank Store.

Goodland School

We have a partnership with Goodland Elementary School.  The Goodland School collection basket is another way for us to support them.  Desired items are:  children’s coats, hats, gloves, and underwear (new in packages please).

Teenage Foster Care

The Teenage Foster Care program is administered by the Kenosha Human Development Services, Inc.  The program serves youth from both Racine and Kenosha.  The shelter is located in Kenosha and has been in operation since 1975.  The children can stay for a maximum of 60 days.  Other services provided include independent living placements for 17-19 year olds.  Brandy and Allen Smith, from Covenant, work with this mission.

Unopened items to collect for Teenage Foster Care:  lotion, shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, facial cleansers, nail care items, nail polish, nail clippers, make-up for all skin types, after-shave, cologne and perfume.
