Learning » Unlectionary Bible Study
Covenant’s Wednesday morning study has been following the lectionary for four years.
The lectionary is a three year calendar in which a handful of Bible readings are assigned each Sunday. Many churches (Catholic, Lutheran, Episcopal, Presbyterian, Methodist, UCC) choose this system as the basis for Sunday sermons. At the end of the three years, the calendar repeats with the same readings. At best, it creates a foundation of familiarity with the important Biblical texts. The trade-off is that not all scripture is in the lectionary.
Come join Pastor Victoria in studying what got left out of the lectionary (she calls it the unlectionary), the sometimes controversial scriptures about topics including families, marriage, same sex relationships and what gender a minister should be. Come and explore scripture that might be new to you. No prior class necessary. Each class stands alone--drop-ins welcome.
